Laser scanners such as products from Hokuyo feature a 270° wide field of vision, and allow for progammable warning zones at distances up to 5 metres.

Photocells such as ReeR’s Ilion are single beams used as if they were one beam in a light curtain. They can be used to monitor hazardous areas, and allow for more focused, smaller areas to be protected.

Finally, laser scanners such as the The Nuova Elettronica Type 4 DSP laser system are designed for press brakes to enhance operator safety while maintaining efficiency. They monitor the area near the press brake tooling, ensuring that the machine halts if an obstruction is detected.
